It’s evident there’s violence all around us every day, but when it directly affects us and our love ones, we can either choose to ignore the problem, retaliate or be the solution. DeNika Turner-Stephens decided to be the solution! After her 10-year-old niece survived being shot 3 times while playing outside her home in 2010, DeNika was eager to raise awareness towards the STOP THE VIOLENCE cause. She incorporated her passion for modeling and created the Runway 4 Peace organization, where young girls could experience ‘life on the runway’ while showcasing positivity within their community.
Stories like this is what Women Supporting Women Wednesday’s is all about! Runway 4 Peace started out on faith, has been featured by the Los Angeles Times and is now considered the most anticipated fashion show in the city of Compton. The organization provides W.E.R.K! A Women’s Empowerment Runway Klass to create a dynamic influence on young women with the fundamentals of encouragement, self love, and confidence through a fierce catwalk. The organization also assists with modeling gigs and provides a platform to rebuild sisterhood and to display their talents.
To start something from scratch and see growth, is an accomplishment within itself. No matter how small of a change it may be, it’s still a change, continue working on it.
