how to make fruit infused water

Are you drinking enough water? Since our bodies are made up of more than 60% of water, it should be no surprise that we need to drink it every single day. But we all have those moments where we would rather pop open a can of coke and could care less about drinking a bottle of water. And let’s face it, water is pretty boring. But it doesn’t have to be. If you hate the taste of it or you just want to increase your intake, I highly recommend infusing. What’s infusing? It’s simply adding fruit to your drinking water and letting it create its own natural flavors. It’s pretty awesome and it’s a great way to transition to a healthier lifestyle. I’ll share with you some of my favorite ingredients I like to use.

Cucumbers make water taste 10xs better! I don’t know what it is but it gives it a nice clean, crisp and refreshing taste. It’s a great source of Vitamin K, plus it’s low in calories. One cucumber slice is only about 5-8 calories compared to the average can of soda that contains over 100. You could easily eliminate unwanted fat and sugars just by switching to cucumber water. Imagine how much weight you’ll lose!

Whenever I make Strawberry water, I always use frozen strawberries. Why? Because they’re available year round! You can buy a bag from your local supermarket for a reasonable price and just dump everything in a pitcher of water. Because it produces it own natural sugars, it makes the water taste sweet. It’s also high in Vitamin C, potassium, folate, fiber and antioxidants. Just one glass of strawberry water will boost your immunity while giving your body the proper nutrients it needs. And just to think, you can get all of that just by drinking a glass of water.
imageMint Leaves are a calm and soothing herb that contains Vitamin A, C, B-12 and iron. But don’t think mint leaves will make your water taste like a cup of peppermint, (I thought it would) because it doesn’t (LOL). It’s simply a garnish. It adds it’s own unique flavor without overpowering it, creating a perfect blend when added with other ingredients. Just add as many leaves as you would like and if you prefer a stronger flavor, just crunch up the stems and let the juices work its magic.

How I Infuse Water

Large pitcher of purified water
1 bag of frozen strawberries
1 large cucumber
1 package of mint leaves

Rinse cucumber and mint leaves (cut roots if still attached). Cut cucumber in thin slices and add mint leaves and strawberries to water. Let sit for 4 hours or overnight. Drink within 48 hours and discard remaining.

Not only does infused water benefit you internally, it helps with your outer beauty too. A healthy inside will produce a healthy outside. Don’t be surprised when you start glowing girl! Your hair, skin and nails will thank you! You’ll start to feel and look healthier and what girl doesn’t want that? Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a journey but small changes like this can help. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday and since we will be infusing our water, our options are endless!

Have you infused your water? Let me know what fruits you’re using or if you plan on trying it out! Til next time….

Stay Healthy!
xoxo Dominique
