I just got the most super DEFINED and FRIZZ-FREE twists using As I Am Curling Jelly! This was supposed to be a twist out, but the product worked so great that I decided to keep the twists in, for a couple of days. There’s no special technique for this style. Just make sure to apply the product on SOAKING WET hair for defined and frizz-free results!
As I Am Curling Jelly Review
Products you’ll need:
- As I Am Curling Jelly
- Spray Bottle of Water
How to Use:
Apply Curling Jelly to clean, conditioned and detangled hair while it is still soaking wet, in small sections, from root to tip. Spray with water if hair begins to dry before you’re done.
To define your coils/curls, you may finger rake, comb through with a wide-toothed comb (Shingle), or finger style.
I took the “finger style” route and decided to twists my hair.
Below are my Pros and Cons…
A little goes a long way. The As I Am Curling Jelly provides tons of moisture and lots of slip, making it perfect for both curly and coily hair. My twists and twists out were defined and moisturized, days after using the product.
It took a FULL DAY for my twists to dry. But then I realized, I used wayyy too much product. Then I noticed white flakes. According to the website, using the As I Am® Leave-In Conditioner before applying the Curly Jelly will help prevent flaking once hair is dry.”
I used Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Butter Moisturizing Detangler and experienced minor flaking. It wasn’t much. I just applied grapeseed oil to get rid of them.

Check out the company’s website for tips and advice before purchasing or using a product. If I would’ve researched the Curling Jelly before making an impulsive purchase, I wouldn’t have applied so much product to my hair and I would’ve used the As I Am Leave-IN Conditioner to avoid flakes.
But, whatever you do, make sure to apply the product on CLEAN. Based on online reviews, it can cause a white gummy buildup and then you’ll have to shampoo your hair all over again! Not fun.
Would I use the As I Am Curling Jelly again?
Probably during the warm seasons. Since the product has to be used on soaking wet hair and my hair is super thick, I don’t want to risk getting sick just because I’m waiting for my hair to dry. BUT, if you have finer hair, it might work for you, regardless of the season! A little goes a long way, so if you have time to wait until your hair is dry or have access to a diffuser, I say go for it!
