Women are always asking me, “What’s the best shampoo and conditioner I can use for my hair?” and I tend to stumble on that question because there are a ton of products on the market, claiming to work “miracles” for every hair type. But essentially the answer would be, natural, sulfate-free products, simply because they tend to be the most safest and the least harsh on the hair. Here are 3 affordable, Sulfate-Free Shampoos and Conditioners I recommend for Every Hair Type!
“Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curling Shampoofor thick, curly hair gently cleanses, hydrates and detangles hair for bouncy and healthy curls. Sulfate-free. Made with natural and certified organic ingredients. – Coconut Oil hydrates and protects hair while reducing breakage. – Silk Protein smoothes hair for a soft, silky feel. – Neem Oil controls frizz while adding brilliant shine.” Price: $10.99
“SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner The lightweight daily conditioner for thick, curly hair restores and smoothes dry hair cuticles. No more knots, snarls and tangles. Helps tame frizz as it defines and enhances natural curls.” Price: $11.99
My Experience: I actually used this product last night because Shea Moisture never disappoints me! First off, my hair is really dry so a harsh shampoo, especially with sulfates, will only make the problem worse. So I appreciate a shampoo that doesn’t strip my hair of it’s natural oils and a conditioner that will quickly restore moisture back into the hair stands. Even though the shampoo is sulfate-free, it provides a great lather that throughly cleanses the hair. Product residue after using this, has never been an issue. Even though this product is tailored to African Americans, anyone with thick, curly hair (especially my Latina’s) can benefit from it too.
“Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Hydrating-Clarifying Shampoo balances the art of clean with moisture and protection. Gentle enough for every day. Adds moisture and manageability. Hydrating botanical extracts smooth frizz. Leaves hair perfectly pH balanced and clean. Ideal for overworked, environmentally stressed hair. Lauryl and laureth sulfate free.” Thrive Market Price: $5.95
“Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Hydrating-Clarifying Conditioner reawakens dry hair to the wonders of moisture. A blend of Organic ingredients and protection factors make dull hair the life of the party. Adds moisture and manageability. Hydrating botanical extracts smooth frizz. Leaves hair perfectly pH balanced and conditioned. Ideal for overworked, environmentally stressed hair.” Thrive Market Price: $4.95
My Experience: Ok, so I haven’t tried this product out yet, simply because it’s hard to find and I wasn’t sure if it would work on African American hair. I normally see Giovanni at Sprout’s or Whole Foods, but a lot of naturals are RAVING about it, so I thought I’d give it a shout out. And let me just tell you, these ingredients are AMAZING! The shampoo and conditioner contain Aloe Vera juice, Soy, Rosemary & Chamomile Extract and based on the reviews, I heard it’s great for thick, oily hair and the conditioner is a must for wash n goes. It’s definitely a product worth searching for. What’s even better is, I found them half off at Thrive Market. I’ll be ordering it soon so be sure to subscribe. You don’t want to miss my review!
“Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisture Shine Shampoo & Intensive Treatment Set This sulfate-free formula nourishes and adds brilliant shine, while gently cleansing and detangling. Creme of Nature Argan oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment strengthens, imparts moisture and prevents hair breakage.” Price: $14.69
My Experience: I truly get the best of both worlds whenever I purchase this duo. Thanks to the sulfate free formula, it works great for my natural hair and even more amazingly on my Snob Life extensions. The shampoo is creamy and creates a gentle lather and the conditioner is really a winner too. In lieu of my favorite deep conditioner, I’ll use this rinse-out conditioner to replace the moisture in my hair. And, I LOVE the way it softens my extensions. It always leaves them feeling silky smooth, without ever weighing the hair down. It’s difficult to find an African American product to use on any hair type, but this one here can definitely get the job done.
