Wash day is tomorrow, so I thought I’d share with you all 3 deep conditioners I’ve used for my type 4, natural hair. I struggle with unbelievably thick, dry, kinky hair, so I NEED a product that will effectively nourish, moisturize and detangle it. I’ve literally gone through a jar of deep conditioner within 2 uses, so affordability and quality are high on my list! The first thing I look at when purchasing a product are the ingredients. Does it contain anything that might potentially harm my skin? Are there fumes that could be hazardous to my health? The best choices are always products with all natural ingredients. Here are 3 products I highly recommend….
“EDEN BodyWorks JojOba Monoi Deep Conditioner strengthens hair through its botanical combination of Coconut, Jojoba, and Monoi. Formulated to replenish hair strength and restore hair’s natural beauty from over processing, damage, and dryness. JojOba Monoi Deep Conditioner is fortified to balance the hair’s moisture level, resulting in stronger, healthier, more manageable hair. Excellent deep conditioner for all textures and hair types.”
My Experience: This was one of the first all natural, deep conditioners I used and I was really impressed by it. Mainly, because I didn’t think ANYTHING would work for my thick dry hair, but it soaked this stuff up like a sponge!! It has a creamy consistency, similar to a traditional rinse-out conditioner but a tad bit thicker. If you don’t like super thick conditioners, this one is for you! It’s not too heavy and won’t weigh your hair down, even after rinsing. It works best when combined with heat and made my hair really soft. Scent was okay. Recommended leave-in time 15-30. Since the product wasn’t as thick or oily as I would have liked it to be, I added coconut oil and olive oil (on separate occasions) to it for extra nutrients.
“SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Intensive Strengthening Masque restores strength and resilience to damaged, brittle or chemically processed hair. Perfect for those who regularly color, straighten, perm or heat style their hair, as well as kinky, curly or wavy natural styles. Helps promote growth by supporting hair’s elasticity, reducing the appearance of breakage and shredding. Peppermint oil stimulates the scalp for an invigorating experience. Leaves hair soft, manageable and shiny.”
My Experience: Every natural has probably tried or at least heard about Shea Moisture. They ‘re know for having a wide variety of quality products for every hair type at an affordable price. Whether you have fine or coarse hair, they’ve got you covered. Trust me, I’ve tried them all! I’m a huge fan of JBCO (Jamaican Black Castor Oil) and use it all the time on my skin, so the fact that they incorporated it with a deep conditioner is great! JBCO is extremely thick and perfect for dry hair, in addition to a bunch of other goodies. You can feel the product tingle on your scalp, thanks to the peppermint oil in it. This product is THICK so beware.
“Cantu Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque penetrates deep into the hair shaft to help moisturize and repair damaged, dry and brittle hair. Made with 100% pure shea butter and formulated without chemicals or harsh ingredients, Cantu for natural hair restores your real, authentic beauty. Embrace your curly, kinky, or wavy hair with Cantu for natural hair. No mineral oil, sulfates, parabens, silicone, phthalates, gluten, paraffin, propylene glycol, PABA or DEA.”
My Experience: This is the real deal Hollyfield right here! I was introduced to Cantu back in 2008, while in college, before they introduced the natural hair line, and fell in LOVE with the scent. It smells like a yummy concoction of tropical goodness! HAHA! Their natural line is better than what they had before and I like this one wayyy more! I’ve tried a lot of deep conditioners, but this hands down is my staple!!! As I stated before, my hair is extremely dry, so it’s imperative that I ALWAYS deep condition to restore moisture back into my hair. This stuff gets the job done! It’s SUPER thick and oily, just the way I like it. It works great with or without heat. If you have coarse, kinky or dry, damaged hair, this is for YOU!! CLICK HERE to read my full review.
I love experimenting with products, but when I find the perfect one, I STICK to it and I advise you to do the same. I know there are a lot of products on the market claiming to work wonders and we want to try them all, but doing so too frequently can cause more damage than good. I recommend thoroughly trying out a product, meaning, use ALL the product and the entire line (shampoo and conditioner) if possible, before switching to try a new brand. That way, your hair will reap the full benefits of that particular product, without the interference of a different brand.
